Childbirth Education Programs at the Birth Place

The birth of your baby is one of the most exciting events in your life and a moment that you will cherish always.  Our educational program for pregnancy preparedness is designed to educate the pregnant woman and her spouse/support person, about the pregnancy, birth and postpartum phases of the childbirth experience.  A list of the classes and tours for the remaineder of 2010 appears below.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Rockdale Medical Center's Community Education Coordinator at 770-918-3694 or click here to send her an email. Birth Place Tours

Expectant families tour the Birth Place rooms on both the Labor and Delivery and Mother/Baby Units. Family members, including children, are allowed to tour.

2010 Tour Dates

When: Tours are offered on these Sundays from 4 p.m. to  5 p.m. We ask that arrive no later than 3:45 p.m. for the tour at the East Tower Entrance of the hospital.  A member of our staff will meet tour participants in the lobby area and begin with the tour promptly at 4 p.m.  If you do not arrive prior to the start of the tour, we ask that you make plans to attend a tour at a later date.  Thanks for your consideration.

Dates for 2010: July 25, August 8 & 22, September 5 & 19, October 3 & 17, November 7 & 21, December 5 & 19.

Sensational Siblings  

These classes are designed for children ages 3-11 to help the transition of a new baby coming into the family. The classes show the older sibling(s) ways they can be helpful and reinforces their own importance in their family unit.

When: Sibling classes are offered every other month on Sundays from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Dates for 2010: August 22, October 17, and December 5.

Registration: Required

Fee:  Free

Childbirth Refresher

This class provides updates and abbreviated information to repeat parents.

When: Classes are offered quarterly on Mondays from 7 p.m. - 9 p.m.

Dates for 2010: August 16 and November 15.

Registration: Required

Fee:  $30.00

Pregnant and Prepared Series

A series of eight two-hour classes. The first six prepare you for the prenatal phase and includes the signs of and stages of labor, relaxation and breathing techniques, nutrition, anatomy and physiology, when to call your doctor, types of deliveries, medication for laboring, parental and postpartum adjustments and more. The last two classes provide information on feeding and caring for your new baby.

When: Classes are offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7 p.m. - 9 p.m.

Dates for 2010: July 13, 15, 20, 22, 27, 29, August 3 and 5.  August 17, 19, 24, 26, 31, September 2, 7 and 9.  September 21, 23, 28, 30, October 5, 7, 12 and 14.  October 26, 28, November 2, 3, 9, 11, 16 and 18.  November 30, December 2, 7, 9, 14, `6, 21 and 28.

Registration: Required

Fee:  $15.00 per class

Pregnant and Prepared Weekend Series

Dates for 2010: July 10,17,31 and August 7.  August 28, September 11, 18 and 25.  October 20, November 6, 13 and 20. PLEASE NOTE: JULY 24, CLASS HAS BEEN CANCELED

Fee:  $30.00 per class

Lactation Classes

When: Lactation classes meet the second Tuesday of every month from
7 p.m. - 9 p.m. Fathers are welcome.
