2016 Birth Place Classes

The staff at Rockdale Medical Center’s Birth Place congratulates you as you prepare for your new baby. To assist you and your family in this exciting time in your lives, the Birth Place invites you to participate in our classes and tours. You will learn the many ways to ensure that you are ready for your little bundle of joy, while having an enjoyable time.

We offer tours of our Birth Place each month so that you can become familiar with our facility. Our Birth Place tours are limited to 10 moms and their support person. Registration is required for all tours and classes.

The Birth Place also offers classes to help in preparation for your new baby. Our Birth Place Education Program has reorganized our classes to better serve your needs. Ask about our tours and classes in Spanish. To register for tours or classes, please call: 800-424-DOCS (3627)

2016 Birth Place Tours

Tours begin in the East Tower Entrance lobby. Please be punctual, as tours start promptly at the designated time. Tours are free but pre-registration is required. Tours begin at 5:30 p.m. on the following Sundays:

2016 Birth Place Classes

The Birth Place childbirth classes are offered on Tuesday and Thursday evenings or in a single all-inclusive session on Saturdays. You must register for four classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays or for a single Saturday session. Registration Fee: $65. Scheduled dates for 2016 are:

2016 Sibling Class

This class is designed for children ages 3-11. It helps introduce the new baby into your household. The big brother/sister-to-be will learn ways to help out with the new baby. The family can tour The Birth Place after the class. Registration fee: $15/family. Classes are from 4:30-5:30 pm in the Mother/Baby Classroom

2016 Infant CPR Classes

Learn the basics of infant CPR. This non-certification course offers an overview of this life-saving skill for parents, grandparents and other infact caregivers. Registration Fee: $15. Classes will be held on Saturdays from 8:00-10:AM in the Mother/Baby Classroom

2016 Breastfeeding/Lactation Classes

Taught by our Certified Lactation Consultants, this class provides information about the importance of breastfeeding to babies and their families. Techniques for latch-on and positioning are demonstrated to help you get started. Information on combining breastfeeding with pumping and returning to work or school is also introduced, as well as safe breast milk storage. Expectant mothers should attend this class one to three months before their due date with fathers, grandparents, and other support people. There is a registration fee for this class. Parking for all classes and tours is available in the East Tower Entrance Parking Deck. The classrooms are located in the East Tower to the left of the elevators.

Inclement Weather
Occasionally, classes or tours may be cancelled due to inclement weather. If the county schools are closed, Rockdale Medical Center will also cancel the event scheduled for that day.

Visiting Hours
Visiting hours begin at 9 a.m. on the postpartum unit. Our new visitation schedule allows mothers time to rest, bond, and breastfeed their babies. Therefore, the father or support person will be the only visitors permitted between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Visiting hours will resume at 3 p.m. until 9 p.m.
